Sunday

Garden walk

Rain drops sit on the iris.
Birds sing melodies.
Sweet aromas fill the air.
These things renew my spirit
on this beautiful Sunday morning.

The family farm

DSC_0368
This gate is to a house that stands on a farm that has seen 6 generations
The original homesteaders and many of their 11 children lie beneath the sod on a hill not far away
Those that wait for a chance to reunite with them still gather together here
The congestion of vehicles parked in back is a sign they were anxious to get inside to see familiar faces.
They share meals, stories, good times and bad while sitting on the porch or around a table inside
Sometimes they meet in the wooded areas for holidays and picnics
Then they drive back to their own homes and while remembering the families that began there
They look forward to the next event that binds them together.

Weather prompt

This is what happened when I read a photo prompt for this week.

Saturday

Rain.

Oxalis, Purple Shamrock
The TV is on, but low in volume when I looked up.
It's raining.
I love rain.

I switch off the tv,
I open the back door to listen.
I sit on the stoop to watch.

The sounds are soft and pleasing to my ears.

There's a low rumbling in the distance
and splats of water hitting the stone path.
A tinkling of bells disturbed by a gentle breeze.

The steady falling rain mesmerizes me.

There are little pools that display never ending circles on the cement.
The Redbud leaves catch little drops
And hold them long enough for me to see.

Birds have left the sky to take cover somewhere.
The grass seems to stand up at attention,
Delicate white flowers bow their heads in thanks.

And so do I.

Monday

Spring Storms in Texas

DSC_0914
I hear thunder rolling across the skies.
It’s spring in Texas.
It may have been 80 degrees yesterday,
but it’s spring in Texas.
I rushed out to the roses to clip sweet blooms,
because it’s spring in Texas.
Next to the pinks I saw a bird feather and picked it up too.
It’s spring in Texas.
Cold drops of rain coated the cement and wet my bare feet.
It’s spring in Texas.
The winds will grow, the clouds will boil and we may even see a tornado,
because it’s spring in Texas.

Wednesday

I’ve been in the garden today

DSC_0815
Pardon me there’s no lunch made.
I thought I’d be out only a minute.
But there were birds singing in the trees,
A mother wren making a nest,
A squirrel stealing Osage oranges.
Winter is gone and weeds are popping up everywhere.
I’m sorry there was no lunch made.
I thought to pull a  few weeds from between the stepping stones,
then a bramble of briers from the fence,
some decayed leaves from the flower beds.
I thought it would take just a few more minutes.
Then  I imagined the chimes ringing in time to the bird songs,
mother bird telling her babies to stay quiet,
the squirrel shooing me along.
There was no lunch and it’s getting late.
But I will only be here a few more minutes,
I think.     DSC_0805

Joy in this moment

This moment
catching snow flakes
feeling the cold on your tongue
the reward
for waiting

Saturday

This moment

A simple bulb
and a promise of spring.
A flash of color
and a breath of new air.
A moment in time
caught on film.
To share and remember.

Happy Valentines!

It's OK

To eat my Valentine chocolates before "the day" got here!

To stand still on the back porch with a cup of hot tea

breath deep

and relish the love of family.

It's OK, really, it is okay.

A Romantic Old Barn

Country Barn
For several days I drove by a farmers past.
The color, a darkened red
planted on a bright green carpet of winter wheat,
backed up by the teal blues and  antique whites of the sky.
The paint peeling,
The roof sagging,
The hay door gone.
The romance of it grabbed my heart,
played songs in my mind,
demanded my attention.

There areThings in Life

I like to share.
Things like abundance, happiness, beauty and such.
Things God made and shared with me.

There are things in life
I don't care to remember.
Things I can't bear to mention.
Things God knows but has put away, because I asked.

There are things in life
that are important, things that aren't.
I thank God for those things.
They shape life on earth and feed my desire for an eternal life in Heaven.
