Yesterday I bought a bag of fresh cranberries and oranges at the market to make myself a retreat breakfast. If you’ve never done something really special for yourself, this is a great starter. There are plenty of recipes on Pinterest. Mine is super simple using about a cup of finely chopped cranberries, a small can of crushed pineapple, about a quarter cup of chopped pecans and some orange zest all stirred together. Spread some cream cheese on a bagel and add a dollop of cream cheese and some of the relish. Devine.
I started setting up by making a small table centerpiece using a clear container almost filled with some of the fresh cranberries and simply added some artificial red and teal berry sprigs. The colors make a nice holiday theme that is neutral enough to keep out through January or February. I like that. By adding or changing a minimum of character pieces I go from Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Years with no decorating stress at all. This mornings breakfast isn’t too holiday themed, just a lovely winter escape.
A teal charger, white hobnail plate and a decoratively printed salad plate and cup carry the color scheme. A plain white cloth napkin with a DIY sprig of the same centerpiece artificial berry sprigs coiled into a napkin ring give the breakfast table elegance.
I leaned back on a bed of pillows and soaked in some morning sunshine while I sipped tea and nibbled on my bagel. I might just stay here all day long.
