Baked Apple Dumpling

What can be as American as Apple Pie?  Apple Dumplings.  I love them because they are fast, easy, delicious and the presentation can be fabulous.  You only need some baking apples, pie crust, brown sugar and cinnamon sugar plus a dollop of whipped cream.

If you are making your own crust, do that first.  There's an easy pie crust recipe here or you can use a purchased crust, nobody really cares as long as they get one of your delicious dumplings!

Wash, core, peel your apple(s).  The beauty is you can make one or a dozen, as long as you have enough apples and pie crust.  I have a purchased apple corer and use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin.  It is quick and painlessly easy.

Pack some brown sugar in the cored cavity of each apple.  Wrap each apple with some pie crust and use the palms of your hands to press the crust to the apple and seal it in. Place the wrapped apple on an oiled cookie sheet or shallow baking pan.  (If you are using a cookie sheet, it should have a little lip around the edge to catch any escaping liquids)  Bake at 350° F 45-55 minutes.  The crust will be light brown.  Serve them warm (or cold) with a big dollop of whip cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar.
