Hosting a child book party about fairies

I just spent the best afternoon with my 8 year old grand and her friends (+little brother)!  She and I decided several weeks ago to host a book club party for kids.  It all started after our weekly trip to the library and a discussion about the books we had finished reading.  I told her sometimes grown ups have book clubs and all choose the same book to read and then have parties to talk about them.  That triggered her to ask if she could have a party.  So naturally we began a search at the library for a book that her friends would enjoy.  After we looked at a number of books she decided a book about fairies would be perfect.  The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the stories are about fairies of the different seasons.

I don't know about you but here in the states we've spent a lot more time indoors than usual waiting out the frigid polar cold fronts.  I have perused and made a lot of Pinterest finds.  At a luncheon for friends last week I made several recipes and created one of my own.

Soup, Salad and Sandwich luncheon with Hummingbird Cupcakes

I took an opportunity to rekindle some old friendships since I moved to the country and invited several friends from my younger days to have lunch in our renovation project home.  I settled on a menu that included a Creamy Broccoli Soup, Croissant Sandwiches, a fruity  Romaine Salad and decadent Hummingbird Cupcakes topped with PinWin pineapple flowers.  All of the recipes are easy to prepare for an informal luncheon with old friends that left me stress free so I could enjoy the visit with them.

A Thanksgiving table for the fall

I always enjoy seeing the beautiful table settings on Pinterest and blogs I visit.  Now that we have a formal dining area I get to dress up a table for myself. It was fun to pull together some fall items and know I get to leave it set up for several days.  This table started with a moss green fabric runner topped with a wide burlap ribbon.  The centerpiece is a green glass vase I picked up at Ross and large sunflowers from Michaels.  The acorn squash, butternut squash and pine cones are real but the acorns are not.  The fabric pumpkin is one I crafted last fall.
